Lagos State has commenced a training programme on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion for 500 polytechnic students from across the South-West region. The month-long training began at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) as part of efforts to promote sustainable energy and youth skill development.
The initiative, organised by the Mojisola Olayinka Fatungase Edema (MOFE) Foundation in collaboration with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) South-West Zone, aims to equip students with practical skills in CNG vehicle conversion, maintenance, and safety.
Speaking at the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted the environmental and economic benefits of adopting CNG technology. He also announced plans for the construction of 17 new CNG filling stations across the state by October 2025 to support the growing demand.
Engr. Olufunmilade Akingbagbohun, immediate past National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), encouraged students to embrace the training as a pathway to reducing youth unemployment and contributing to Nigeria’s clean energy future.
The programme aligns with the Presidential CNG Initiative’s goals to develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting Nigeria’s transition to greener energy sources.
Participants are expected to gain hands-on experience that will enhance their employability in the emerging CNG sector, reinforcing Lagos State’s commitment to sustainable development and youth empowerment.
