Abia Government Begins House-to-House Sanitary Inspections Across All 17 LGAs

The Abia State Government has announced the commencement of comprehensive house-to-house sanitary inspections across the entire state, as part of renewed efforts to promote environmental hygiene and public health. The exercise, which is being spearheaded by the State Ministry of Environment, is currently ongoing in all 17 local government areas.

According to government sources, the inspection initiative is aimed at ensuring that residents adhere strictly to basic sanitation standards, especially in residential areas, marketplaces, and public spaces. Environmental officers have been deployed to carry out routine checks, offer guidance on waste disposal, and identify areas that may pose health risks to the communities.
The exercise is said to be part of a broader strategy by the Abia State Government to curb the spread of preventable diseases, reduce pollution, and restore cleanliness to urban and rural settlements. Residents are being urged to cooperate fully with officials and ensure their surroundings remain clean and safe.

The Ministry has also warned that households or establishments found to be in violation of environmental regulations may face penalties in accordance with existing sanitation laws.
The government reiterated its commitment to creating a healthier environment for all Abians and maintaining public spaces that reflect the state’s development agenda.
