Governor Adeleke has now been branded a “political orphan” after reportedly seeking refuge in the APC—an overt admission of his desperation, according to ADC spokesman Sola Fasure. On a recent radio show, Fasure claimed Adeleke panicked following setbacks in courtship efforts by the APC leadership, including elder brother Deji’s involvement, which were rebuffed by influential party figures like Minister Gboyega Oyetola. The governor’s alleged overtures were reportedly blocked due to lingering distrust, especially from Senator Iyiola Omisore—an earlier ally who switched to SDP when Adeleke reneged on a political deal
Describing Adeleke’s overtures as “begging,” Fasure said the governor is politically exposed, lamenting that key assets have drifted to the ADC, where former Governor Rauf Aregbesola is rebuilding his base. Fasure argued that Adeleke secured victory in 2022 largely by capitalising on divisions within the APC and siphoning off Aregbesola loyalists—and now fears a replay of that same dynamic against him.
Reflecting on the alleged failed defection, Fasure said: “Adeleke’s panic began when the APC rejected him,” observing that party elders had made it clear any entry would mean starting from the bottom—no automatic ticket, no guarantees. He warned that if Adeleke insisted, it could deepen his political woes.
Marking his political isolation, Adeleke is now said to have become a “political orphan,” struggling to regain footing. Fasure went further, attributing recent public jibes directed at Aregbesola to a frustrated attempt to reposition himself. However, those attacks are believed to be more a sign of internal panic than a strategic offensive
In contrast, the ADC confidence is on the rise. Fasure highlighted a large turnout at Aregbesola’s recent event—interpreted as a barometer of shifting grassroots sentiments—and warned Adeleke that his grip on the electorate is slipping
In summary, Adeleke’s reported lobbying to join the APC has not gone unnoticed, but the rejection he received has, according to critics, weakened his political standing and emboldened rival camps. As Osun politics edge toward the 2026 governorship race, his future within the PDP—and broader political relevance—are now under serious strain.
