Anambra 2025: Moughalu Emerges Labour Party Candidate for Governorship Election

Chief George Moughalu, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, has been officially named as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Moughalu secured a decisive victory in the party’s primary election, receiving 573 votes to defeat his sole contender, John Nwosu, who garnered 19 votes. The primary election took place on Saturday at Finotel Hotel, Awka, and was overseen by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and electoral observers.

The election saw 649 delegates, with 601 individuals accredited and a total of 592 valid votes cast. Five votes were deemed invalid.

In his acceptance speech, Moughalu called for unity within the party, extending a hand of fellowship to his opponent, John Nwosu. He emphasized that with collective effort and collaboration among party stakeholders, victory in the upcoming election would be within reach.

“I am ready for the battle ahead,” Moughalu stated, referencing his determination to challenge the incumbent governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He expressed confidence that his vast experience in public service and politics would be an advantage in the race.

Moughalu also underscored the need to communicate the Labour Party’s agenda to the people of Anambra, emphasizing its potential to bring about positive change for the entire state. “Anambra is blessed with abundant human and natural resources. Our task is to create a level playing field and harness these resources for the greater good of the people,” he added.
