Attorney General Okays Prosecution of Andy Uba, Benjamin Etu Over Alleged N400 Million Fraud

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has given official approval for the prosecution of a former Senator, Andy Uba, alongside one Benjamin Etu, over their alleged involvement in a N400 million fraud case.

This development marks a significant step in the legal process following investigations into the high-profile financial crime allegation. According to sources familiar with the matter, the approval from the AGF signals the commencement of formal legal proceedings aimed at holding the individuals accountable for their roles in the alleged fraudulent transaction.

The case centres around claims that both Uba and Etu were involved in a scheme that defrauded an individual or corporate entity of a staggering N400 million. Although details of the transaction remain under wraps pending court proceedings, legal experts note that the amount in question points to a case of major economic and financial crime.

The Office of the Attorney General confirmed that sufficient evidence had been presented by relevant law enforcement and investigative bodies to warrant prosecution. The matter is expected to proceed to court in the coming days, where both defendants will have the opportunity to respond to the charges.

This move is in line with the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to clamp down on corruption and financial misconduct, especially among public office holders and politically exposed persons. Legal observers say the prosecution will serve as a litmus test for Nigeria’s anti-graft efforts under the current administration.
