Abuja – Daniel Bameyi, captain of Nigeria’s U-20 national football team, has attributed his selection to the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) Team of the Tournament to the collective efforts of his teammates and coaching staff.
The Bayelsa United defender played a key role throughout the competition, appearing in all six matches as Nigeria secured third place in the tournament held in Egypt. Bameyi’s solid defensive performances, including a crucial goal and a Man of the Match award, helped Nigeria maintain a strong defensive record, conceding just three goals.
In a statement, Bameyi expressed gratitude for the individual accolade but emphasized that it reflects the team’s overall success. He acknowledged the important contributions of his fellow players and the support staff in achieving the team’s goals.
The Confederation of African Football’s Technical Study Group included Bameyi as the only Nigerian in the Team of the Tournament, alongside players from South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, and other competing nations.
Looking forward, Bameyi remains committed to helping Nigeria achieve further success at the international level while continuing to grow as a leader on and off the pitch.
