“Bandit Kingpin Bello Turji Surrenders, Renounces Violence”

Zamfara, Nigeria – July 8, 2025 — One of Nigeria’s most notorious bandit leaders, Bello Turji, has reportedly surrendered to security authorities, expressing remorse over years of bloodshed and declaring an end to his violent campaign.

Security sources in Zamfara State confirmed that Turji turned himself in following discreet negotiations facilitated by local stakeholders and security operatives. His surrender comes amid intensified military operations and a federal push for peace in the Northwest region.

According to insiders familiar with the development, Turji stated that he had “seen enough bloodshed” and was ready to embrace peace for the sake of innocent lives and the future of his people. His decision is seen as a potential breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in Northern Nigeria.

Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Malam Mani Mallam Mudi, while addressing journalists, commended the development but urged federal authorities to verify Turji’s sincerity and ensure that justice is not compromised.

“This is a welcome development, but it must be backed by concrete commitment and accountability. The people must see justice done,” Mudi said.

The Nigerian Armed Forces, through the Defence Headquarters, have yet to officially confirm the details of Turji’s surrender but noted that counter-banditry operations would continue until total peace is restored.

Bello Turji has been linked to numerous deadly attacks, mass abductions, and large-scale destruction across Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger States over the past several years. His surrender could pave the way for other insurgent leaders to lay down their arms as calls for dialogue and demobilization grow across the region.
