Bauchi Rep Empowers Local Farmers with Tractor, Farm Inputs to Boost Agriculture

In a move aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and empowering rural farmers, the member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Garba, has donated a brand-new tractor and assorted farming inputs to farmers in his constituency.

The gesture, which was warmly received by members of the farming community, took place on Saturday at a brief handover ceremony in Bauchi. The event drew local leaders, youth representatives, and agricultural stakeholders, who described the donation as timely and impactful, particularly as the rainy season begins across the region.

While presenting the items, Hon. Garba emphasized that the intervention was part of his commitment to promoting food security, supporting rural development, and tackling youth unemployment through sustainable agriculture.

“This is not just a donation; it is an investment in the livelihoods of our people. Farming remains the heartbeat of our local economy, and empowering our farmers with tools and inputs is a sure way to drive growth, reduce poverty, and boost food production,” the lawmaker said.

The donated items included a tractor fitted with implements for ploughing and cultivation, bags of improved maize and rice seeds, fertilizers, and herbicides. Beneficiaries were drawn from different wards within the constituency based on a needs assessment conducted by the lawmaker’s constituency office in collaboration with local farmer cooperatives.

Garba noted that similar agricultural support programmes would be extended to other parts of the constituency in phases, adding that plans were underway to collaborate with relevant government agencies and development partners to provide training on modern farming techniques.

He further charged beneficiaries to make good use of the equipment and farm inputs, stressing the importance of accountability and communal ownership in managing the tractor and other shared assets.

Representatives of the farmers, in their remarks, expressed gratitude for the support, saying it would greatly ease the burden of land preparation and improve yields during the current farming season.

“We are grateful to Hon. Garba for remembering us in the villages. With the tractor, we can now cultivate more land in less time. This is a big relief,” said Mallam Adamu Usman, a farmer from Zungur ward.

The initiative comes at a time when the Federal Government has been advocating for mechanised farming and increased investment in agriculture as a means to diversify Nigeria’s economy and achieve food sufficiency.

Stakeholders have urged other elected officials to emulate the Bauchi lawmaker’s gesture, noting that such grassroots interventions are key to transforming the fortunes of rural communities and achieving inclusive development.
