“Buhari Served Nigeria With Unwavering Dedication,” Declares President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a beacon of patriotism, discipline, and selfless service to Nigeria. In a solemn statement released shortly after Buhari’s death on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82, Tinubu paid tribute to his predecessor’s steadfast commitment to the nation

President Tinubu stated that Buhari “served Nigeria with unwavering dedication,” noting his two distinct periods of national service: first as military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985, and later as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023

He highlighted Buhari’s roles as a soldier and statesman, asserting that “duty, honour and a deep commitment to unity and progress defined his life”

Commemorating Buhari’s principled leadership, Tinubu praised his “quiet strength,” profound integrity, and unwavering belief in Nigeria’s potential, achievements made more impressive amid turbulent times marked by economic and security challenges

He also commended Buhari’s crusade against corruption, efforts to instil discipline in public service, and placing the nation’s interest above personal gain

Addressing Nigeria’s mourning, the President extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s widow, Hajiya Aisha, their children, and the people of Katsina State, especially the Daura Emirate.

As a symbol of respect and grief, Tinubu ordered the national flag to fly at half‑mast for seven days beginning Sunday, July 13, 2025, and convened an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, July 15, to honour Buhari’s legacy

Emphasising national unity and continuity, Tinubu vowed that his administration would build upon the foundations Buhari laid, calling on all Nigerians to draw inspiration from the former president’s courage, conviction, and unwavering patriotism . He ended his tribute with a prayer: “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” affirming that Buhari’s life shall continue to inspire future generations.
