Buhari to Be Laid to Rest July 15 in Daura, Confirms Governor Radda

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has formally announced that the burial of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, will take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura. The disclosure was made in an official statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, following consultations with the late President’s family and associates in London, where he passed away on Sunday at the age of 82.

According to Governor Radda, the remains of the former Nigerian leader will be flown into Katsina by noon on Tuesday and will be interred by 2:00 p.m. the same day in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites and traditions. The Governor emphasized that arrangements for the burial were concluded after discussions with close family members and trusted confidants of the late President who were present in London.

Expressing profound sorrow over the loss, Governor Radda conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as to the Nigerian people at large. He described Buhari as a towering figure whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to national service, both as a military ruler and as a democratically elected president.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to his immediate family, the government and people of Nigeria, and all those who looked up to him as a symbol of patriotism and leadership,” Radda said. He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant his soul peace, and reward him with Aljannatul Firdaus.

Governor Radda also extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commiserating with the Commander-in-Chief over the loss of his predecessor. He urged Nigerians to remain strong and united during this period of national mourning, reflecting on Buhari’s legacy of integrity, discipline, and commitment to nation-building.

The Katsina State Government has confirmed that it is working closely with relevant federal agencies and the Buhari family to ensure a smooth and dignified burial ceremony befitting the stature of the late elder statesman. Preparations are said to be in top gear to receive dignitaries from across the country and abroad for what is expected to be a solemn but honourable farewell.
