The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, on Thursday, June 26, 2025, received the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, Mr. Hassan Abdalla, at the CBN Headquarters in Abuja for high-level bilateral discussions.
The meeting, held as part of efforts to enhance regional cooperation, focused on deepening central banking relations between Nigeria and Egypt, two of Africa’s leading economies.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Cardoso emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships among African central banks, particularly in addressing common macroeconomic challenges, improving monetary policy frameworks, and facilitating cross-border financial integration.
Governor Abdalla, in his response, reiterated Egypt’s commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation with Nigeria, citing shared objectives around economic stabilization, digital innovation, financial inclusion, and sustainable development.
The engagement also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange on regulatory innovations, payments infrastructure, financial system resilience, and currency management strategies. Both leaders expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would serve as a catalyst for stronger economic ties between the two nations.
The visit marked a significant step toward regional monetary collaboration and underlined the growing momentum for African central banks to work more closely in promoting financial stability and economic growth across the continent.
