Customs Cautions Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment, Auction Scams Circulating Online

Abuja, June 21, 2025 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a stern warning to the public against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment and auction schemes being widely circulated on social media platforms.

In a statement released by the Service, the Customs authority expressed concern over the increasing activities of scammers who impersonate NCS officials to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians with false promises of job offers and auctioned items. These fraudsters reportedly use fake websites, cloned social media pages, and doctored documents to mislead the public into making payments for non-existent opportunities.

The Service reiterated that it has not commenced any new recruitment exercise and that all official announcements are made only through its verified communication channels, including the NCS website and recognised national media outlets.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard any advertisement or message circulating online claiming to offer Customs recruitment slots or auction sales,” the statement read. “These are the handiwork of fraudsters looking to exploit innocent citizens.”

Customs further warned that engaging with such fraudulent schemes not only results in financial loss but could also expose individuals to identity theft and other security risks. It urged Nigerians to be vigilant, conduct due diligence, and report suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

The Service reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in all its processes, including recruitment and auction exercises, which it said are conducted openly and in accordance with laid-down procedures.

Members of the public were encouraged to stay informed through official NCS platforms and not to fall prey to impersonators promising quick access to government employment or auctioned goods.
