Dangote Refinery Denies Shutdown, Confirms 40 Million Litres Daily Petrol Supply

Lagos, Nigeria — August 8, 2025

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed recent media and social media reports alleging a halt in its operations or suspension of truck loading activities.

In a statement issued on Friday by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company affirmed that the refinery “is fully operational” and continues to supply “over 40 million litres of petrol daily” to the market.

Chiejina further clarified that the recent tender for Residual Catalytic Oil (RCO) was part of routine commercial operations, explaining that large-parcel sales of fuel oil are standard industry practice and do not indicate a production shutdown.

The refinery’s denial comes amid speculation fueled by unverified reports claiming disruptions in supply. Industry observers note that while the plant has previously undergone scheduled maintenance and faced temporary loading delays due to external factors such as tanker driver protests, there is no evidence of a full operational halt.

Independent verification of the daily 40-million-litre supply figure was not immediately available, as the statement did not include current regulator truck-out data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
