Dangote Refinery to Build 1.6 Million‑Barrel Fuel Storage Facility in Namibia

July 11, 2025 — Walvis Bay, Namibia

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery plans to construct a fuel storage complex in Walvis Bay with a capacity of at least 1.6 million barrels of gasoline and diesel, Reuters reports .

The initiative is part of a strategy to enhance refined fuel supplies to southern African countries, including Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly the southern Democratic Republic of Congo.

This marks a major shift for Dangote, whose 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, built at $20 billion, opened last year and is quickly expanding production and market reach.

Construction of the storage tanks, located within Walvis Bay harbour, is expected to begin shortly, according to a Namibia Ports Authority official.
