The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Friday paid an operational visit to Nigerian Army troops stationed at the Dukku Military Barracks in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, where he charged them to intensify efforts in the fight against insecurity in the region and across the country.
The visit, which was part of the Minister’s ongoing tour of military formations across the country, was aimed at assessing the morale of the troops and reviewing the effectiveness of current security operations in the North West, especially in areas troubled by banditry, terrorism, and other violent crimes.
Addressing the soldiers, Badaru conveyed the appreciation and support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government, acknowledging the courage and professionalism demonstrated by the troops in the face of persistent security challenges.
“You have shown resilience and bravery in carrying out your duties, and for that, the President and the entire nation are grateful,” the Minister said. “But we must not relent. The time has come for a final and decisive push to finish all forms of insecurity in our country.”
In a morale-boosting interaction, the Minister asked the troops if they were ready to end the insurgency, receiving a resounding affirmation from the soldiers, who chorused, “Yes, Sir!”
The Defence Minister was accompanied by senior military officers and later paid a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the federal and state governments to consolidate gains made by the military in recent months.
Badaru noted that security operations in Kebbi and its surrounding areas had yielded significant results, particularly in repelling insurgent activities and improving agricultural productivity. “Farmers are now returning to their lands with confidence, and that is a clear indication of the progress we are making,” he said.
He also reiterated President Tinubu’s directive for the Armed Forces to sustain pressure on criminal elements until total peace is restored across all affected communities.
The minister’s visit comes amid growing efforts by the federal government to strengthen national security architecture through improved funding, training, and inter-agency cooperation. It also serves as a reassurance to residents of Kebbi State and the wider North West region of the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability.
The visit was warmly received by the military personnel and state officials, who expressed optimism that the renewed federal support would translate into lasting security in the region.
