Delta First Lady Flags Off Measles-Rubella Vaccine Sensitization, Endorses ITN Campaign in Support of MORE Agenda

In a bold step towards strengthening healthcare delivery in Delta State, the wife of the state governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Monday spearheaded the launch of a sensitization campaign on the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine. The event, which held at Unity Hall in Government House, Asaba, aligns with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, which emphasizes access to quality healthcare services across the state.

Addressing a cross-section of stakeholders, including health officials, traditional leaders, community influencers, and caregivers, Deaconess Oborevwori stressed the dangers posed by the Measles-Rubella virus, particularly to children. She appealed to parents and guardians to take full advantage of the ongoing immunization efforts, which are being provided free of charge through the National Programme on Immunization (NPI). According to her, the MR vaccine is not only safe and effective but crucial in safeguarding the lives of children and reducing childhood mortality rates.

The sensitization drive is being carried out under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, a coalition that has continued to lend its voice and influence toward advancing public health campaigns at the grassroots level. Deaconess Oborevwori noted that one of the key priorities of the campaign is to eliminate misinformation and encourage full participation by mobilizing parents in rural and semi-urban communities.

In a related development, the First Lady also formally endorsed the 2025 Mass Distribution Campaign of Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs), a vital component of Nigeria’s strategy for malaria prevention. This endorsement coincided with her investiture as the Delta State Net Ambassador, a role that places her at the forefront of public awareness and behavioral change initiatives in the fight against malaria.

Reaffirming the state government’s dedication to protecting lives through proactive health policies, Deaconess Oborevwori pledged continued advocacy and support for programs that enhance the wellbeing of Delta residents, especially vulnerable groups such as women and children. She further assured that the current administration remains committed to bridging healthcare gaps and delivering on its promises under the MORE Agenda.

With these initiatives, Delta State is positioning itself as a model for sub-national action on immunization, disease prevention, and community based health interventions.
