ABUJA — In a proactive move to enhance community resilience ahead of the rainy season, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the Emergency Management Volunteers (EMVs) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has launched an extensive flood sensitization and awareness campaign targeting major marketplaces across the country.
The joint initiative aims to educate traders, shoppers, and local residents on flood risks, safety measures, and early warning signs to mitigate the impact of flooding, which has historically caused significant disruption and losses in vulnerable urban and rural communities.

Teams of trained EMVs have been deployed to key commercial hubs, engaging directly with market stakeholders through informative sessions, distribution of educational materials, and demonstrations on emergency preparedness. The campaign underscores the importance of community involvement in disaster risk reduction and encourages proactive steps to safeguard lives and properties.
NEMA officials stressed the critical role of grassroots sensitization in complementing government efforts to manage flood risks, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and responsive to official warnings during the peak rainy periods.
This awareness drive reflects a growing emphasis on collaborative disaster management strategies between federal agencies and youth-led volunteer groups, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to building resilient communities amid climate challenges.
