FG Activates Emergency Protocols as New Ebola Cases Emerge

Abuja, Nigeria | September 6, 2025 – The Federal Government has stepped up border control measures following the confirmation of fresh Ebola cases in parts of West Africa, activating emergency health protocols to prevent the virus from entering Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Health disclosed that surveillance systems have been strengthened at airports, seaports, and land borders, with health officials directed to intensify screening of travellers, particularly from countries where the outbreak has been reported.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) confirmed that rapid response teams have been placed on high alert, while isolation and treatment facilities across the country are being prepared for any potential cases.

Officials emphasized that Nigeria has the capacity and experience to handle the threat, recalling the successful containment of the Ebola outbreak in 2014. Citizens were, however, urged to remain vigilant, report suspected cases, and adhere strictly to public health advisories.

The government assured Nigerians that all necessary resources are being mobilized to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
