Abuja – June 28, 2025
The Federal Government has directed the immediate rehabilitation of critical failed portions of the Suleja-Minna Road, a major artery linking Niger State to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, issued the directive following mounting concerns over the deteriorating state of the road, which has caused severe traffic congestion, hampered economic activities, and posed significant safety risks to commuters.
Speaking through a statement released on Monday, Senator Umahi emphasized the federal government’s commitment to maintaining strategic infrastructure and ensuring the safety and convenience of road users.
“The condition of some sections of the Suleja-Minna road has become unacceptable. I have directed that remedial works commence immediately to restore smooth vehicular movement and reduce the suffering of Nigerians plying the route,” the Minister said.
The repair initiative, to be handled by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), will focus on failed carriageways and dangerous spots notorious for accidents and delays.
Residents and transport operators have welcomed the move, describing it as long overdue. The Suleja-Minna road is a vital corridor for commuters and goods transport between northern and southern regions of the country.
The Federal Government also assured the public that more road interventions are in the pipeline across the country as part of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda.
