The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a groundbreaking digital platform that will connect Nigerian academics in the diaspora with universities and research institutions across the country. The platform, which aims to harness global expertise for national development, is scheduled for official unveiling on Sunday, July 28, 2025.
According to the Ministry of Education, the initiative is designed to bridge the knowledge gap between local institutions and the vast intellectual capital of Nigerian professionals abroad. The platform will enable academic collaborations, virtual lectures, research partnerships, mentorship opportunities, and curriculum development across disciplines.
A senior official from the ministry stated that the move is part of broader efforts to revitalise Nigeria’s education sector by leveraging global talent to improve teaching quality, research output, and innovation capacity in tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tahir Mamman, noted that the launch marks a strategic milestone in repositioning Nigeria’s higher education system for global competitiveness. “This is not just a knowledge-sharing tool, but a nation-building strategy that taps into the strength of our citizens, no matter where they are,” he said.
Nigerian universities, facing challenges such as limited funding, inadequate staffing, and outdated infrastructure, are expected to benefit significantly from the expertise and exposure that diaspora academics will bring. The platform is also expected to contribute to the internationalisation of Nigerian education and reduce academic isolation.
Stakeholders from academia, the tech industry, and government agencies are expected to attend the launch event in Abuja, where live demonstrations of the platform’s functionality will be presented. The platform is open to Nigerian scholars abroad willing to contribute voluntarily to the academic advancement of their home country.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader digital transformation and brain gain strategies, aiming to rebuild confidence in Nigeria’s education sector and drive national development through knowledge-based partnerships.
