Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has praised the national women’s basketball team for securing a place in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket championship final.
In a social media post on Sunday, Mrs. Tinubu commended D’Tigress’ decade-long unbeaten run in the tournament, describing the players as inspirations for Nigerian girls and women. “Your commitment, dedication and hard work keep our flag flying high,” she wrote, while praying for victory in the final.
The defending champions earned their finals spot after a tense 75-68 semifinal win against Senegal on Saturday in Abidjan. The Nigerian team maintained composure throughout the physical encounter, edging both quarters (22-17 and 21-20) against their West African rivals.
D’Tigress now stand one win away from extending their continental dominance, having remained unbeaten in Afrobasket competitions since 2015. The First Lady’s message comes as Nigerians rally behind the team ahead of their championship clash.
