The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, departed Abuja for Daura, Katsina State, to attend the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Her journey follows the announcement of national mourning and official burial rites in honour of the late statesman who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 2015 to 2023. Buhari passed away earlier this week, prompting tributes and condolences from world leaders, public institutions, and citizens across the country.
Senator Tinubu’s attendance reflects the high-level representation of the Presidency at the funeral, underscoring the nation’s deep respect and gratitude for Buhari’s legacy in national leadership, anti-corruption efforts, and public service.
The state burial, which is being held in Buhari’s hometown of Daura, is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including governors, lawmakers, diplomats, and traditional rulers.
In a statement issued by the Office of the First Lady prior to her departure, Mrs. Tinubu described the late former President as “a pillar of integrity and patriotism who gave his all to Nigeria.” She extended condolences to the Buhari family and the people of Katsina State.
Security has been heightened in Daura and surrounding areas in anticipation of the high-profile burial rites. The Federal Government has also declared a three-day national mourning period in Buhari’s honour.
