Gateway International Airport Secures Nigeria’s First Aerodrome Operational Permit

Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State — September 5, 2025

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has granted the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State Nigeria’s first-ever Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP), marking a historic milestone in the country’s aviation sector.

The certification followed a technical inspection by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), which confirmed the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) on Runway 23 to be fully operational and satisfactory.

This latest approval comes weeks after the airport received an interim permit in August 2025, which allowed the commencement of scheduled commercial flights. The facility had earlier been cleared for chartered operations in late 2024.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the development as a major boost to Ogun State’s economy, positioning the airport as a hub for cargo exports, passenger travel, and regional connectivity.
