Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has pledged to restructure the Alesinloye Market in Ibadan to prevent future fire outbreaks. This commitment comes after a devastating fire incident in March that destroyed goods worth millions of Naira.
During his visit to the market, Makinde noted that despite the presence of a fire station, the fire could not be contained. He emphasized the need for a functional fire station and proper market organization to prevent such incidents.
The governor also announced that the state government has provided palliatives to victims of the fire incident. Additionally, he suspended the planned demolition of a section of the market until alternative arrangements are made for traders.
Makinde stressed the importance of enlightening the public on fire safety and prevention measures. He advocated for caution when storing flammable materials and emphasized the need for collaboration to prevent future fire incidents.
The Oyo State Government, in collaboration with local authorities, will work to cushion the impact of the fire incident on traders and provide support in the coming days.
