Kwara State was thrown into mourning on Sunday following a deadly attack by suspected gunmen in Alalubosa, Okuta, located in Baruten Local Government Area. The incident claimed the lives of a police inspector and four other residents, leaving the community in shock and fear.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the armed men stormed the area in the early hours, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among residents. The police inspector, who was reportedly on duty, was killed while attempting to repel the assailants. Four other civilians were also confirmed dead in the attack.
Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the incident, stating that security operatives have intensified patrols and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. She assured that the command is committed to bringing the attackers to justice and restoring calm to the affected community.
The attack has sparked renewed calls for improved security presence in border communities, with residents expressing concerns over recurring incidents of violent crimes in the area. Authorities are urging locals to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement during ongoing investigations.
