In a move aimed at deepening democratic engagement, the Nigerian House of Representatives has officially scheduled the dates for the nationwide public hearings on the constitution review. The exercise, which is part of ongoing efforts to amend the nation’s supreme law, will be conducted in phases to ensure inclusive participation across all geopolitical zones.
The first phase, focusing on the northern regions, is set to take place from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13, 2025. This will be followed by the second phase, targeting the southern zones, scheduled for Friday, July 18 through Sunday, July 20, 2025. These sessions will allow citizens, interest groups, and stakeholders to present their views, recommendations, and concerns about proposed constitutional amendments.
To culminate the process, a national public hearing will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. This final session is expected to consolidate inputs gathered across the country and set the stage for the next legislative steps in the constitution review process.
Lawmakers have emphasised the importance of this exercise as a critical opportunity for Nigerians to actively shape the legal framework that governs their rights, responsibilities, and the country’s future governance. Stakeholders across sectors have been urged to participate fully to ensure that the constitution reflects the aspirations and realities of all Nigerians.
