Immigration Boss Joins Constitutional Dialogue on National Security in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – June 17, 2025
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), KN Nandap, participated in a high-level legislative dialogue on constitutional review, focusing on reshaping Nigeria’s national security framework to meet current realities.

The event, themed “Nigeria’s Peace and Security: The Constitutional Imperatives,” took place on June 16, 2025, at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja. The dialogue brought together key stakeholders in the nation’s security architecture, including lawmakers, security chiefs, legal experts, and policy analysts.

The Comptroller General, who holds several professional distinctions including PCC, MMIS, and FSMN, underscored the importance of strengthening border security, intelligence sharing, and legal reforms to ensure a more resilient national security system.

“A constitutionally driven security architecture must reflect the realities of our borders, migration trends, and transnational threats,” she said.

The dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to amend relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution to address evolving security challenges, particularly terrorism, banditry, and cybercrime.

Participants at the forum called for improved synergy among security agencies, accountability in operations, and the need to balance civil liberties with national security interests.

The Comptroller General’s presence at the event underscores the increasing role of immigration services in Nigeria’s broader security strategy.
