Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has expressed strong optimism that the full implementation of the National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP) will significantly transform and accelerate the country’s agricultural ecosystem.
Speaking during a strategic policy dialogue in Abuja on Wednesday, Kyari emphasized that NATIP, a flagship policy initiative of the current administration, is designed to revolutionize farming practices, boost productivity, and ensure food security through modern technology and sustainable innovation.
According to the Minister, “NATIP is not just a policy document—it is a comprehensive blueprint aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s agriculture for global competitiveness. Its implementation will drive value-chain development, empower smallholder farmers, and attract private-sector investment.”
Kyari noted that key components of the policy include digital agriculture, climate-smart practices, improved mechanization, and access to affordable finance and quality inputs. He added that the policy also prioritizes youth and women inclusion, seeing them as vital drivers of agribusiness growth.
He assured stakeholders of the federal government’s commitment to ensuring timely execution of NATIP across all six geopolitical zones, stating that the programme aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for national economic diversification.
The Minister called on development partners, state governments, and the private sector to collaborate effectively in rolling out the policy, which he said has the potential to reposition agriculture as Nigeria’s most strategic economic pillar.
