Ismaeel Ahmed Appointed to Lead Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).

The appointment is aimed at strengthening the Federal Government’s strategic response to the post-subsidy era by expanding access to affordable, cleaner, and alternative energy sources for Nigerians. The PCNGi serves as a major pillar of the administration’s broader palliative intervention programme, with a focus on easing transportation costs and promoting energy transition.

Barr. Ahmed, 45, will oversee the coordination and implementation of the initiative’s operations nationwide. A graduate of the University of Abuja, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2005, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He later obtained a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, in 2008.

Prior to this appointment, Barrister Ahmed served as the Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme between 2018 and 2022, where he contributed significantly to poverty alleviation and youth empowerment initiatives.

His new role places him at the helm of a transformative energy agenda expected to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on fossil fuels, lower emissions, and provide cost-effective alternatives for transport and power generation.
