Kirikiri Customs Generates ₦89.2bn in Six Months, Surpasses 2024 Record

Lagos, Nigeria — August 17, 2025 | The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a revenue haul of ₦89.2 billion in the first half of 2025, marking a stronger performance compared to the same period last year.

The Area Controller, Comptroller Hamisu Balarabe, confirmed the figures in a statement, attributing the growth to improved stakeholder compliance, deployment of technology, and tighter monitoring of trade operations.

He revealed that the command witnessed a notable increase in cargo throughput, particularly in imported consumer goods and industrial raw materials, despite Nigeria’s challenging economic environment and fluctuating foreign exchange rates. According to him, the success highlights the Service’s renewed commitment to efficiency, transparency, and partnership with port users.

Balarabe further assured that the command is poised to maintain the momentum in the second half of the year with intensified enforcement against smuggling, false declarations, and duty evasion. “Our mandate goes beyond revenue generation. We are equally committed to facilitating legitimate trade that strengthens Nigeria’s economic growth,” he stressed.

The KLT performance aligns with a broader trend across Customs formations nationwide, where several commands have reported improved collections in 2025. Analysts say the results reflect the federal government’s push to boost non-oil revenue streams amid efforts to stabilise the economy.
