Kwara Government Begins Statewide School Census to Strengthen Education Planning

Ilorin, Nigeria | September 22, 2025

The Kwara State Government has commenced a comprehensive school census exercise aimed at gathering credible data to guide effective planning and policy formulation in the education sector.

The initiative, flagged off in Ilorin on Monday, is being coordinated by the State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development in collaboration with local education authorities. Officials said the census would capture accurate information on student enrolment, teacher distribution, infrastructure, and other learning resources across primary and secondary schools in the state.

Speaking at the launch, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, said the exercise was critical to ensuring evidence-based decision-making and equitable allocation of resources. She stressed that without reliable data, government interventions in the education sector would remain ineffective.

Education stakeholders, including school heads and teachers, were urged to provide full cooperation to census officers to guarantee the accuracy of the exercise. The state government assured that the data collected would also support monitoring of progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in education.

Authorities emphasised that the school census would be conducted periodically to ensure continuous improvement in education delivery across the state.
