The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Honourable Musibau Asafa, has died.
His death, which occurred on Friday evening, has thrown the local government community and political stakeholders across Lagos into mourning. Although details of the circumstances surrounding his death remain sketchy, sources close to the family confirmed that he passed away after a brief illness.
The Lagos State Government and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss. In a condolence message, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the late chairman as “a committed public servant who dedicated his life to the service of his people.”
“Hon. Musibau Asafa was a grassroots leader who truly understood the needs of his people and worked tirelessly to meet them. His death is a painful loss, not only to Ibeju-Lekki but to Lagos as a whole,” the governor said.
Tributes have poured in from various quarters, including fellow council chairpersons, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents of Ibeju-Lekki, all eulogising his leadership style, accessibility, and developmental strides in the local government.
Late Asafa was known for his efforts in improving education, healthcare, and infrastructural development within the council area. He is survived by his wife, children, and other family members.
Burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
