The Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Tafa Sego, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday night, April 5, 2025. Six armed men stormed his residence in Surulere, Lagos, in a brazen attack.
According to sources, the assailants arrived at Sego’s home on Gbadamosi Close around 11 p.m. They encountered only the security guard, whom they tied up before ransacking the property in search of the NURTW leader. However, Sego had already left for an event earlier in the day with a few associates and was not present during the attack.
The attack sent shockwaves through the Surulere neighborhood, with residents expressing deep concern over the violent intrusion. There are fears the assailants may return, as the attack appeared well-coordinated.
Officials from the Area C Police Command visited the residence shortly after the incident to assess the situation and document the damages. The security guard was questioned and provided valuable information that is assisting the ongoing investigation into the attack.
A close associate of Sego revealed that the NURTW chairman is deeply troubled by the attempt on his life, especially as he is focused on implementing reforms to improve the welfare of union members. The associate further confirmed that Sego has pledged to fully cooperate with security agencies to ensure the assailants are brought to justice.
