Lagos OEQA Oversees Conduct of Basic Education Certificate Examination

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Lagos State, has intensified its monitoring of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to ensure compliance with approved examination standards across public and private junior secondary schools.

Speaking during an inspection exercise in various schools, the Director-General of OEQA, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, emphasized that the monitoring is part of the agency’s mandate to uphold excellence and integrity in the state’s education system.

She noted that the exercise is designed to check examination conduct, prevent malpractices, and support schools in maintaining quality academic standards.

According to Seriki-Ayeni, officials from the OEQA have been deployed to all six education districts in the state to assess the preparedness of schools, the condition of examination environments, and the adherence to guidelines by school administrators and invigilators.

“The integrity of our public examinations reflects the quality of education in Lagos State. This monitoring exercise is necessary to ensure that our students are assessed fairly and that the values of hard work and merit are not compromised,” she stated.

She further encouraged school heads to maintain discipline and transparency throughout the examination period, urging students to rely on their preparation rather than engage in any form of malpractice.

The OEQA has pledged continued support for schools in enhancing education delivery and strengthening the credibility of assessments in line with the goals of the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda of the Lagos State Government.
