LASCOCO, Kenya Cooperative University Inaugurate Joint Academic Working Committee

Lagos, Nigeria | August 8, 2025
In a strategic move to deepen academic collaboration and cooperative development, the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) and Kenya Cooperative University have officially inaugurated a Joint Academic Working Committee aimed at strengthening bilateral educational and research initiatives.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Lagos, brought together senior academic officials, government representatives, and cooperative sector stakeholders from both countries. The newly formed committee is expected to drive curriculum development, joint research projects, faculty exchange, and capacity-building programmes focused on cooperative education and enterprise.

Speaking at the event, the Provost of LASCOCO, Mr. Akorede Ojomu, described the partnership as a significant milestone in advancing cooperative learning frameworks across Africa. “This collaboration is designed to promote academic excellence and practical knowledge-sharing that supports the growth of the cooperative sector both in Nigeria and Kenya,” he stated.

His counterpart from Kenya Cooperative University, Professor Kamau Maina, emphasized the importance of cross-border academic cooperation in solving shared development challenges. He noted that the working committee will serve as a platform for joint innovation, cooperative policy development, and inclusive economic empowerment.

The partnership aligns with both institutions’ commitment to building resilient cooperative systems, empowering youth through entrepreneurship education, and driving socio-economic transformation in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

With the committee now operational, both LASCOCO and Kenya Cooperative University have pledged to sustain mutual engagement through regular meetings, joint publications, regional conferences, and institutional linkages that foster academic excellence and cooperative sector advancement across the continent.
