The Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) has appealed to traditional rulers across the state for their collaboration in regulating and sanitizing the real estate sector. The move is aimed at curbing fraudulent practices, resolving land disputes, and ensuring transparency in property transactions.
Speaking during an official engagement with traditional leaders, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, emphasized the strategic role of royal fathers in community development and land administration. She noted that their influence at the grassroots is crucial to addressing long-standing challenges in the real estate industry.
Odunuga-Bakare stated that LASRERA is committed to protecting investors and property buyers from exploitation, and can only succeed with the backing of traditional institutions. According to her, the collaboration will help foster awareness on the importance of proper documentation and adherence to regulatory procedures in all land and housing dealings.
“Traditional rulers are vital partners in our mission to entrench order and accountability in the real estate sector. Their support will help us in combating the activities of impostors and unregistered agents who take advantage of unsuspecting citizens,” she said.
She added that the state government is determined to promote sustainable housing development and attract more investment into the real estate sector, but achieving that goal requires building trust and eliminating fraudulent practices.
The engagement is part of LASRERA’s broader strategy to strengthen regulatory enforcement and create a more credible and investor-friendly real estate market in Lagos. Traditional rulers who spoke at the forum expressed readiness to work with the agency in achieving its mandate for the benefit of residents and property stakeholders.
