Mehmet Poroy has officially assumed office as the new Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, succeeding Hidayet Bayraktar. His appointment was marked by a formal ceremony during which he presented a copy of his credentials to Ambassador Wahab A. Akande, Chief of Protocol at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Poroy’s appointment, which was officially announced in the Turkish Official Gazette, comes as part of a strategic diplomatic shift aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Turkey and Nigeria. His extensive experience in African diplomacy, particularly from his previous role as Turkey’s Ambassador to Algeria from 2015 to 2019, is expected to play a key role in advancing Turkey’s diplomatic interests in the region.
