NDLEA Arrests Iran-Bound Businessman at Port Harcourt Airport with 53 Wraps of Cocaine

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – June 15, 2025

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a businessman attempting to board a flight to Iran at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Rivers State, for allegedly ingesting 53 wraps of cocaine.

The suspect, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was intercepted during routine security screening. According to NDLEA officials, the man was flagged for exhibiting suspicious behaviour, prompting a secondary screening that led to his confession and subsequent excretion of the drug pellets.

A senior NDLEA officer confirmed that the suspect had ingested the cocaine in an attempt to smuggle the illicit substance to Iran, concealed within his body. He is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.

“This arrest highlights the ongoing threats posed by drug trafficking networks and the need for continuous vigilance at our international borders,” the agency stated.

The NDLEA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and assured the public of its continued efforts to clamp down on traffickers and their sponsors.

The suspect will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
