Abuja, June 18, 2025 – In a solemn but hopeful ceremony today, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) presented a cheque totaling ₦18,652,908.20 to the family of a late employee who tragically lost his life while performing official duties. The Managing Director of NSITF, Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye—represented by the Executive Director of Operations, Hon. Mojisola Alli‑Macaulay—handed over the funds under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).
The deceased, an employee of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria, died in a road traffic accident while returning from work. The disbursement highlights NSITF’s ongoing commitment to providing financial support to families affected by work-related injuries or deaths.
Faleye used the occasion to urge all employers to fully enrol in the ECS and honour their obligations to protect their workforce. He emphasized that subscribing to the scheme not only safeguards employees’ welfare, but also guarantees timely compensation for their dependents in the event of tragedy. He further appealed to employers to promote robust safety practices and to report incidents as required to avoid penalties.
Underlining the importance of workplace care, Faleye encouraged firms to accommodate employees who are injured or disabled by assigning them to suitable roles. He also praised the Planned Parenthood Federation for its cooperation with NSITF, noting that such partnerships are vital to sustaining a transparent, efficient, and accessible compensation framework.
“Today’s presentation reaffirms our collective responsibility as a society to care for one another,” Faleye commented, describing the gesture as both compassionate and purposeful. He stressed NSITF’s mandate to ensure no covered employee is left vulnerable in times of need, citing the ECS as a lifeline for long-term support and dignity for affected families.
The cheque presentation serves as a compelling reminder of the safety net ECS provides and NSITF’s duty to enforce compliance and facilitate social protection for Nigeria’s workforce. It marks a critical step in reinforcing workplace welfare and employer accountability.
