August 6, 2025 — The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has reiterated its strategic commitment to building a resilient and sustainable upstream energy sector in Nigeria, as it took center stage at the 2025 Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) held in Lagos.
Delivering a keynote address at the high-level energy forum, the Commission Chief Executive (CCE), Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, emphasized the NUPRC’s regulatory innovations aimed at boosting investor confidence, enhancing hydrocarbon output, and aligning Nigeria’s energy framework with global sustainability goals.
Engr. Komolafe stated that the commission was actively deploying digital solutions, data transparency, and environmental governance tools to drive efficiency in exploration and production activities. He noted that the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has empowered the NUPRC to reposition Nigeria’s upstream sector for global competitiveness.
He added that the Commission is focused on achieving energy security while ensuring a just energy transition. “Our vision is not just regulatory excellence but building an industry that thrives on sustainability, technology, and inclusive value creation,” he said.
The 2025 NAICE, themed “Reimagining Energy for a Sustainable Future”, attracted global stakeholders, industry experts, and policy drivers who discussed innovation, climate adaptation, and investment strategies for oil-producing countries like Nigeria in a changing energy landscape.
Participants commended NUPRC’s transparency initiatives, including the launch of the Upstream Regulatory Digital Portal (URDP) and proactive environmental compliance monitoring systems, which have already begun yielding results in terms of operational accountability and revenue optimization.
The commission’s participation at NAICE 2025 further highlights its leadership role in shaping Nigeria’s energy discourse and driving reforms that balance exploration growth with responsible environmental stewardship.
