Ogun Government Denies Renaming Tai Solarin University of Education

ABEOKUTA, July 25, 2025 – The Ogun State Government has firmly denied reports suggesting that it has renamed the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, dismissing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

The clarification was issued on Wednesday following the circulation of unverified information on social media and certain online platforms alleging a change in the institution’s name. In a statement released by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the government stressed that there is no plan, discussion, or policy direction aimed at altering the name of the university.

Prof. Arigbabu described the false narrative as an unnecessary distraction intended to create confusion among students, staff, alumni, and the general public. He affirmed that the institution remains proudly named after the late educationist and social reformer, Dr. Tai Solarin, whose legacy in educational development the university continues to uphold.

He further urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and rely only on official government communication channels for accurate information. The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the standards and identity of all state-owned institutions while working toward their continued growth and excellence.

The Tai Solarin University of Education, established in 2005, remains Nigeria’s premier university of education and has maintained its name and identity since inception.
