Oluremi Tinubu Reaffirms FG’s Commitment to Nigerians’ Welfare as She Receives Chieftaincy Title in Ikorodu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated that the well-being and welfare of citizens remain a central focus of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She made this known on Saturday in Ikorodu, Lagos State, shortly after she was honoured with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Iya Oba of Ikorodu by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi.

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady expressed deep appreciation for the traditional institution and the people of Ikorodu for bestowing her with the revered title, describing it as both an honour and a call to further service. She noted that while titles are symbolic, they come with expectations and responsibilities, especially towards promoting unity, development, and the social welfare of the people.

Senator Tinubu assured the gathering that the Tinubu-led administration will not relent in its efforts to improve the lives of Nigerians, especially in the face of ongoing economic challenges. She stated that the government is actively implementing policies aimed at providing relief, creating opportunities, and ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind in the journey toward national progress.

She also acknowledged the resilience of Nigerian families and communities and called on traditional leaders, women groups, and youth organisations to continue supporting government initiatives geared towards inclusive development and social stability.

The event drew dignitaries from across Lagos State and beyond, including royal fathers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and women leaders, who turned out in large numbers to celebrate the First Lady’s recognition. Her elevation to Iya Oba, which translates to “Mother of the King,” was described by the monarch as a tribute to her steadfast commitment to national values, her support for the less privileged, and her role as a unifying figure among Nigerian women.

As Nigeria continues to navigate various socio-economic reforms, the First Lady’s message from Ikorodu serves as a reminder of the administration’s pledge to place the people at the heart of governance, with special attention to grassroots development, education, health, and social protection.
