Police Extend Tinted Glass Permit Deadline to August 12 Amid Public Concerns

June 14, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has extended the deadline for enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement to August 12, 2025, following growing feedback and concerns from the public.

The extension was announced on Saturday by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The move, according to the statement, aligns with the Force’s ongoing reforms aimed at building a citizen-friendly and inclusive policing system.

The police said the extension will allow for further improvements to both the physical and digital permit application processes, ensuring better verification, shorter processing time, and enhanced user accessibility.

“The Force has not ignored the voices of Nigerians. Rather, these voices have been instrumental in guiding ongoing reviews of the process to ensure it remains user-friendly, secure, and accessible to all,” the statement read.

The NPF emphasized that this decision is a response to operational and technical reviews of the system, and a commitment to “transparent and service-driven reforms.”

As part of the extended grace period, Nigerians are strongly advised to obtain or renew their Tinted Glass Permits only through the official police portal. The public is also encouraged to report any cases of extortion, bribery, or unauthorized charges encountered during the process.

The statement further reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to public safety, digital innovation, and efficient service delivery, and called for continuous public cooperation as reforms are implemented.

“This extension is not a suspension. We urge Nigerians to take advantage of the extended window to comply with the law,” the police reiterated.

The Force concluded by assuring Nigerians of its readiness to address public concerns while maintaining national security priorities.
