Power Supply to Resume Daily by 5pm During Ongoing Maintenance – DisCos Reassure Lagos Residents

Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have assured residents across Lagos that power supply will be restored daily by 5:00 p.m. throughout the ongoing maintenance work affecting transmission infrastructure. This reassurance comes amid concerns over extended outages reported in various parts of the state since the commencement of scheduled technical maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to a statement released by the TCN, the maintenance exercise, which is part of critical upgrades and rehabilitation works on transmission lines and equipment, will primarily take place between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily. The aim, they noted, is to enhance the stability and efficiency of power transmission within Lagos and adjoining states under the Ikeja and Eko Electricity Distribution networks.

Residents have expressed frustrations over the timing and frequency of outages, especially given the prevailing hot weather conditions and increased reliance on electricity for daily activities. However, DisCos have urged Lagosians to remain calm, assuring that the temporary disruptions are necessary for long-term improvements in electricity supply.

While the outages may vary across neighbourhoods depending on the load distribution and feeder prioritisation, both Ikeja Electric and Eko Disco confirmed that restoration efforts will begin immediately after the day’s maintenance window closes. They emphasized that barring unforeseen technical issues, most affected areas should have power restored by 5:00 p.m. each day.

The TCN also appealed for understanding from the public, noting that the ongoing work is essential to improve grid reliability and reduce frequent system collapses which have plagued the sector in recent months. It reiterated that safety protocols are being strictly adhered to during the upgrades and that the exercise is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Meanwhile, energy sector stakeholders have called for better communication between power companies and consumers during maintenance periods to avoid confusion and panic. As the maintenance work continues, Lagosians are advised to plan their daily routines around the anticipated outages and restoration times.
