Two top-ranking officials of the Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State, earlier declared wanted by the police over an alleged brutal assault on the council’s administrator, Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, have turned themselves in to authorities in Port Harcourt.
The individuals, identified as Mr. Hector Ekakita, the Chief Security Officer (CSO), and Mr. Aloni Olodi, Chief of Staff (COS) to the LG administration, were declared wanted by the Rivers State Police Command on July 6, 2025. Their surrender on Thursday followed a public call for them to report to the police for questioning over their alleged roles in a violent attack on Iheanachor at the council secretariat.
According to a statement released on Friday by the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects voluntarily presented themselves at the Command Headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, at about 3:00 p.m. on July 10. Their appearance came after they initially failed to honour an invitation extended by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
The police had earlier accused both officials of leading a group of about 30 youths who stormed the council premises nearly three weeks ago. During the incident, the administrator was allegedly assaulted, his mobile phone and sensitive documents carted away, and he was reportedly coerced into signing a pre-written letter of resignation under duress.
The police spokesperson confirmed that following their arrival, the suspects were interviewed by the Commissioner of Police and his management team. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for deeper investigation and legal action.
“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the suspects, Mr. Hector Ekakita and Mr. Aloni Olodi, earlier declared wanted in connection with the alleged criminal conspiracy, stealing, and assault occasioning harm on Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, have presented themselves to the Command,” the statement read.
“They were subsequently interviewed by the CP and his management team, after which the case was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCIID for further investigations.”
The statement further appealed to members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could aid the investigation. CP Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice, promising that the process would be both thorough and transparent.
Meanwhile, the attack has continued to draw condemnation from various quarters, with civic groups and political stakeholders calling for accountability and protection of elected and appointed public officials. The Rivers State Police Command has reiterated its dedication to upholding law and order, especially in the wake of rising political tensions in some local councils across the state.
