Kenyan President William Ruto has called for urgent reforms to unlock Africa’s vast renewable energy potential, stressing the need for a coordinated continental strategy to fast-track investments in green power generation.
Speaking at the second edition of the Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), President Ruto said Africa cannot afford to lag behind in the global energy transition, given its abundant natural resources including solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal. He emphasized that the continent holds the key to driving sustainable development while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Ruto underscored that regulatory bottlenecks, financing gaps, and weak infrastructure have slowed down Africa’s renewable energy ambitions, despite the rising demand for clean energy to power industries, households, and digital economies.
The Kenyan leader urged African governments, multilateral lenders, and private investors to align efforts toward building a resilient green energy sector, noting that such reforms would not only address climate change but also boost economic growth and create millions of jobs.
The Africa Climate Summit has become a major platform for continental leaders to strategize on climate finance, green technology, and the pathways toward achieving net-zero emissions.
