Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly distanced himself from a solidarity rally scheduled to take place today in his hometown in Akwa Ibom State, declaring that he has no connection with the organizers and warning supporters to avoid the gathering entirely.
In a strongly-worded statement issued yesterday through his Special Assistant on Media Matters, Jackson Udom, the former Akwa Ibom governor explicitly denounced the planned demonstration, suggesting that sinister motives might be behind the event.
“The attention of the office of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has been drawn to a planned rally purported to be in support of the Senate President and organised by an unknown association by the name, Progressive Peoples’ Resolution,” the statement revealed, identifying the group’s leader as “one Ubong Idemudo, a known controversial character.”
The Senate President categorically stated that he has no knowledge of any supportive rally organized at any venue in his home state and consequently urged both his supporters and peace-loving Akwa Ibom residents to disregard the event and continue with their normal daily activities.
According to information compiled by the Senate President’s office, the demonstration appears to be “the handiwork of fifth columnists trying to use the name of the Senate President to achieve their devilish goal.”
Taking his rejection a step further, Akpabio directed security agencies to intervene promptly and prevent the rally from proceeding. “The Police and other security agencies in the state are by this statement directed to ensure that such satanic rally is not allowed to hold, as such has no approval of the Senate President,” his statement emphasized.
This development comes amid heightened political activities across the country, with numerous solidarity gatherings being organized for political figures ahead of future electoral contests. Political analysts suggest the Senate President’s swift and firm rejection indicates concerns about potential security implications or political machinations that could undermine his standing in his home state
Security agencies in Akwa Ibom are expected to maintain increased vigilance throughout today to prevent any unauthorized gatherings that might create tension in the state.
