Senator Tofowomo Confronts Ondo PDP Leaders Over Deepening Crisis

In a scathing critique, Senator Nicholas Tofowomo has lambasted the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, labeling them as “betrayals.” This strong rebuke comes amid a growing internal crisis within the party, which has been exacerbated by the recent resignation of Kennedy Peretei, the party’s spokesperson. Peretei’s decision to leave was precipitated by what he perceived as a betrayal by the party leadership, who had initially encouraged him to express interest in the state chairmanship position but later reneged on their promise.

Tofowomo’s anger stems from the leadership’s handling of Peretei’s situation, which he believes reflects poorly on the party’s integrity. He emphasized that if the leadership had not invited Peretei to show interest in the chairmanship, he would not have been as upset. However, given the circumstances, Tofowomo feels that the party owes Peretei an apology for their actions.

The senator’s comments also touched on the PDP’s dismal performance in recent elections, where the party lost across all 18 local governments in Ondo State. Tofowomo questioned whether he should be blamed for the party’s failures in other local governments, including the ward of another prominent party figure, Ajayi. He noted that the party’s candidate did not even win in Ajayi’s ward, highlighting broader issues within the party’s leadership and strategy.

Tofowomo’s criticism reflects the deepening divisions within the Ondo PDP, which are likely to impact the party’s future electoral prospects. As the party struggles to address its internal conflicts, Tofowomo’s call for accountability and transparency may serve as a catalyst for change, though it remains to be seen how the party leadership will respond to these challenges.
