Maryann Philip-Shaibu, wife of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, has made history by winning the Benin Club Golf Ladies Tournament for the second consecutive year, securing the title for the 2024/2025 season. With this remarkable achievement, Mrs. Philip-Shaibu becomes the first person in the history of the Benin Club Golf Section to claim back-to-back victories as the Ladies’ Overall Match Play Champion, having also won in the 2023/2024 season.
In a heartfelt message celebrating his wife’s triumph, the former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, praised her dedication to the sport, stating, “In the game of life and on the greens, you continue to inspire and conquer with grace, determination, and excellence. With this incredible feat, you have etched your name in history as the first lady in the Benin Club Golf Section, Ladies Division to win the singles match play title back-to-back.”
Shaibu, who is also a golfer, further commended his wife’s unwavering passion for the game, saying, “Your resilience and commitment to excellence continue to set you apart.”
The former Deputy Governor also took the opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of other players in the tournament, particularly Mrs. Dorothy Chukwu, who reached the final. He said, “Congratulations also to Mrs. Dorothy Chukwu for an outstanding performance and for making it to the final. True competition brings out the best in champions, and your remarkable efforts have added to the excitement and prestige of this tournament.”
