SSANIP Extends Strike Ultimatum to Federal Government

Abuja, Nigeria | September 21, 2025

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has extended its strike ultimatum to the Federal Government after the expiration of its initial 21-day notice on September 17.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the union expressed disappointment that its demands had not been met within the earlier timeframe.

SSANIP President, Nura Gaya, said the association had resolved to give the government more time to respond in order to avert a looming industrial crisis.

The union’s demands include improved conditions of service, review of salaries, and better funding for polytechnics across the country.

While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, SSANIP warned that failure to act within the extended ultimatum period could leave it with no option but to embark on strike action.

The Federal Government has yet to issue a formal response to the union’s latest position.
